Hello!
I'm Asha, I am an Abstract, Meditation Artist. I am live in West Oxfordshire in the beautiful Cotswold countryside with my husband and two children, five cats and one dog! (Yes, I am a crazy cat lady!).
I worked as a Graphic Designer in publishing for many years, and have a background in textiles. I've also taught Grahpic Design at a local college and delivered creative workshops to both adults and children.
This is me! Cutting some of the collage elements.
About My Work
Love is the frequency and language of the universe.
With my work I hope to bring the conversation of our universal connection to the forefront of our attention.
My work is largely informed by meditation, emotion and intuition. As I work, I respond to energies and feelings that arise as I create, and I interpret these as colour, texture and form. I meditate on different themes, but mainly focus on the concept of universal connection within humanity, and the belief that we are all connected by love.
I frequently work with the number 108, (and it’s derivatives), which appears within Buddhism and Hinduism in many forms: from 108 beads in a string of Mala beads, to 108 mantras chanted, 108 steps in a temple & the number of snails upon the Buddhas head. This number can appear in my practice in different forms from a repetitive symbol, icon, or notch.
A heart is often my symbol as it is the simplest expression of love in all its forms, a universal symbol, which all humans understand no matter of the language or culture. With my art I hope to help people feel the connection of Love within in a dysphoric world, an emotional dark age, where we are seeking community and connection in fragmented world.
I work in mixed media, using a combination of acrylics, ink, spray paint, collage, stitch, encaustic wax, metal, oil paints and fire. I primarily use board as a surfaces and occasionally canvas.
Collaged sections are created from hand painted papers which are created as part of the process. Within each are a whisper of a thought, energy or wish, like a little magical spell.
I bring all of these elements together to create pieces that are visually enchanting, with a sense of depth and texture. My work has a strong tactile element and are soothing to engage with both physically and emotionally.
My hope with my work is to effect the viewer in such a manner that they feel reconnected with the Universal Love that binds humanity together.
